Srila Bhakti Vilas Tirtha Maharaj, first Acharya of the Sri Caitanya Math

After the disappearance of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, many new Western followers of the Vaishnava tradition felt a great need for guidance and support. The following souls showed special compassion toward them and helped further expand the Gaudiya Math and the Krishna Conscious Movement.

Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Maharaj was personally recommended by Srila Prabhupada for spiritual advice, who called him “my own siksa guru.” He authored numerous books and inspired the opening of many temples worldwide. His teachings continue to inspire numerous missions today.

Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Maharaj, the first president of the World Vaishnava Association (WVA), humbly accepted the role at 95 years old, stating, “Until now, I have done nothing for the Western devotees!” He authored significant books and established many temples, including the renowned Keshi Ghat and Dauji Mandir in Vrindavan. His mission is known as Gopinath Gaudiya Math.

Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj circled the globe many times and at the advanced age of 90, he gave his full support to the Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha, attending many meetings, including one at his own Math in Mayapur. Many devotees from Italy, Austria, and Spain took shelter of him. Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada participated in the inauguration of the temple in Visakhapatnam. He also participated in laying the foundation stone of the ISKCON temple in Mayapur.

Srila Bhakti Ballabha Tirtha Maharaj, the subsequent WVA president and Acharya of the Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Math, also penned numerous books and traveled extensively to visit his disciples.

Srila B.V. Narayan Maharaj, a friend of Srila B.V. Prabhupada, performed his samadhi rites. Initially a staunch supporter of ISKCON, he later provided shelter to many devotees who had lost theirs. He authored numerous books and circled the globe over 20 times.

Srila Gopananda Bon Maharaj, president of Radha Govinda Trust and the WVA, followed his guru Srila B.H. Bon Maharaj’s preaching path in Germany and also visited South America.

Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj, president of the Sri Chaitanya Sarasvat Math, preached globally and authored many books.

Srila Bhakti Vijnana Bharati Maharaj, a beloved preacher of divine love, provided spiritual shelter to many Western devotees.
